Plaques available for upcoming Veterans Monument Memorial

The Round Rock Veterans Monument is coming to Veterans Park in early 2015 and residents can take part in this amazing project. The Round Rock Veterans Monument Committee wants the Round Rock Veterans Monument to recognize as many known veterans from Round Rock as possible, as well as those nominated by family and friends of Round Rock citizens.

The monument will feature six columns with plaques that honor a different branch of service:  U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corp, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. A memorial wall will honor veterans who have been killed in action, become prisoners of war, or went missing in action. Engraved bronze plaques will be installed in the plaza area of the tribute to recognize these veterans.

An engraved plaque with a soldier’s name and date of service can be purchased by the public and will be included in this amazing new tribute. These plaques will be installed once a year and will be unveiled at an annual Veterans Day ceremony held at the Monument.

The first celebration will be on Memorial Day 2015. Subsequent celebrations will be held on Veterans Day. The Round Rock Veterans Monument will reflect the respect and appreciation this community has for past and present military men and women who sacrificed so much.

Residents who are interested in taking part in this amazing new tribute or purchasing plaques should contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 512-218-5540.

Donations are tax deductible (EIN #26-223131515 DLN 17053260356048).
