The City of Round Rock celebrated the expansion of the Round Rock Sports Center indoor sports facility during a ribbon cutting on Monday, Nov. 17.
Opened in 2014, Round Rock Sports Center has become a popular spot for local, regional and national sporting events. It regularly plays host to amateur, youth and recreational sports tournaments; since its opening, the City’s sports tourism program has generated over $210 million in economic activity in Round Rock.
The $17.5 million expansion added 25,000 square feet of space, providing room for two new full-sized basketball or four volleyball courts, as well as championship court seating. A secondary facility entrance and additional surface parking were also included. Â
The facility will now be able to accommodate events such as a 16-court volleyball tournament or be able to host multiple large-scale events – such as a six-court basketball tournament and a cheer competition – simultaneously.
The secondary entrance was designed to provide increased flexibility for operations and event management.
The Round Rock Sports Center expansion is part of the City of Round Rock’s $274 million bond package approved by voters in May 2023, which included a proposition for several quality of life, recreation and sports projects. Â
The Sports Center annually hosts over 70,000 players and 120,000 spectators for sport tournaments, leagues and club sports.
