The Water Spot

New Parkway Strip Conversion Rebate

Rethinking Your Parkway Strip? You’re Not Alone.

Are you frustrated with trying to keep that narrow strip of lawn between the sidewalk and street alive? Ever wonder why it’s even there—or why it’s being watered?

Parkway strips are some of the most inefficient places to maintain turfgrass. Traditional spray irrigation often results in water waste, with overspray hitting the sidewalk and street instead of the grass, like the pictures below show. Plus, these areas get extra heat from surrounding pavement, making it even harder to keep grass healthy and green.

That’s why we’re encouraging residents to rethink these spaces. Consider replacing turfgrass with decorative rock, hardscape, or drought-tolerant native plants. If you prefer lawn in the parkway, consider switching to drip irrigation for more efficient watering.
