This award honors the best and most innovative lifeguard management programs nationally and has resulted in a feature article in Aquatics International Magazine highlighting the Round Rock Aquatics Division.

After a renovation that tripled the size of Rock’N River Water Park, Round Rock Aquatics Division faced possible lifeguard and pool attendant shortages due to increased demand for additional team members. With this challenge in mind, the Aquatics Division launched an innovative social media campaign to recruit teenagers and young adults to fill open positions. Creative promotional videos were also produced for social media channels featuring current City lifeguards and water safety instructors.

Innovative recruitment is just one reason the program has been recognized for Best Lifeguard Management. After the Aquatics Division gets employees in the door, they turn them into fully capable lifeguards. Along with regular lifeguard training, the city takes special steps to make sure guards are ready for the real thing once the season starts by partnering with EMS and fire departments in creating a real-life rescue scenarios with sirens, flashing lights and transfers. These first hand training drills prepare new and experienced guards for possible real-life situations.

It requires 200-plus seasonal team members each summer to staff four pools and one waterpark in the City of Round Rock. For more information about aquatics jobs in Round Rock, visit roundrocktexas.gov/lifeguards.
