The Round Rock City Council approved on second reading Thursday, Oct. 27, a $1.08 increase in the monthly fee charged to residential customers for trash and recycling services.

The new rates will go into effect on bills mailed out beginning Nov. 10. Residential customers would pay a total of $22.14 per month for their weekly trash and bi-weekly recycling pickup as a result of the proposed increase.

The fee change is needed to cover increased costs for fuel, landfill and operations incurred by Round Rock Refuse, the City’s service provider. The total proposed rate change also includes a 10-cent increase for administrative services provided by the City, which covers the following benefits for customers:

• Weekly garbage collection and single-stream curbside recycling every other week.
• Up to seven additional items curbside for regular pickup (including bundled brush and bagged leaves).
• Services at the City Recycling Center, 310 Deepwood Drive, including free mulch, free household chemicals and paint from recycling events, and drop-off for items that cannot be recycled
• Shred for a Paws Cause event in March for secure document shredding.
• Household Hazardous Waste Collection on the first Wednesday of every month from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (except holidays).
• Spring Clean Up, which consists of scheduled days for curbside pickup of furniture and bulk items in April.

The last rate increase for solid waste occurred in March 2019.
