Bond Projects

In November 2013, Round Rock residents approved a bond proposition for $56.5 million for trail and park improvement projects. We have been working hard to get these projects under construction and make them available for community use.  Below is a general update on each of the bond projects currently in progress.

Heritage Trail West: This portion of the project includes improvements to Bathing Beach Park, Chisholm Trail Crossing Park, and Memorial Park, as well as a pedestrian overpass at Chisholm Trail Road and a pedestrian underpass at I-35.  It will include interpretive signage, sculptural elements, pedestrian overlooks, and thematic elements along the trail depicting a timeline of Round Rock’s history.

Heritage Trail East: This portion of the project includes improvements to a newly acquired piece of land along Heritage Circle, design of a destination playground, and a pedestrian bridge over Brushy Creek.  It will include interpretive signage, sculptural elements, and thematic elements along the trail depicting a timeline of Round Rock’s history.

Brushy Creek Trail – Veterans Park to Rabb Park: This project fills in a major gap along the Brushy Creek Trail.  It will include a 10 foot wide concrete trail, a pedestrian underpass at Georgetown Street, and interpretive signage.

  • Location: Mays Street to A.W. Grime Blvd. along Brushy Creek
  • Consultant: Waeltz & Prete, Inc.
  • Currently in permitting phase
  • Estimated Start of Construction: Fall 2018
  • Estimated Completion of Construction: Fall 2019

Lake Creek Trail – Round Rock West Park to Centennial Plaza: This trail segment is a vital connection between Western Round Rock and Downtown.  The project will include a 10’ wide concrete trail, pedestrian underpass at I-35 and the frontage roads, and a pedestrian bridge over Lake Creek.

  • Location: Round Rock West Drive to McNeil Road along Lake Creek
  • Consultant: Hagood Engineering Associates, Inc.
  • Currently in preliminary design phase
  • Estimated Start of Construction: Summer 2019
  • Construction of the Lake Creek Trail will be timed in conjunction with a wastewater improvement project in order to better utilize resources since the projects follow the same general alignment. Both projects are under design and construction.

Multipurpose Field Complex and Soccer Complex Improvements: This project include the construction of 5 multipurpose fields using a combination of synthetic turf and natural grass.  The project also included parking, sports lighting, restroom/concession building, spectator seating and shade.  Improvements to the natural grass fields at the existing soccer complex.

  • Project completed

Rock ‘N River Family Aquatic Center: This project included a large, interactive play feature with slides and tipping bucket, a rock climbing wall and dive platform with deep water lagoon, and an adult lagoon with swim up refreshment area.  It also included thematic elements, seating areas, shade structures, and a food truck vending area. Repair and Replace Program: This program allows updates at neighborhood parks throughout the City.  Updates typically include replacing playgrounds, site amenities, pavilions, etc. as needed on a case by case basis.

  • Round Rock West Park: ADA upgrades, addition of pavilion, new playground, restroom and aerators at pond *Complete
