Water Conservation Rebates

The City’s rebate programs are focused on reducing the use of potable, drinking water. We want water to be used smartly and not wasted.

You must receive a water utility bill directly from the City to apply for any of the rebates below. This is because a small portion of utility bill helps fund the conservation program.

Unfortunately, LCRA rebates are no longer available to any City of Round Rock resident.  The LCRA has changed their policy on who qualifies for their rebate programs.

The City does not have rebates for energy conservation since we are not an energy provider. Check with your electric or gas company for rebates on energy-efficient appliances, such as HVAC units, water heaters, and solar panels.

Parkway Strip Conversion Rebate

This program is for the removal of live turfgrass located in parkway strips and is watered with an automatic irrigation system.  Water waste is prevalent in these small areas.  Upgrading irrigation systems to drip irrigation or removing the irrigation completely will stop water waste by reducing overspray into streets and sidewalks.

Details

  • Parkway strips must have existing grass AND irrigation systems.
  • Grass must be removed and converted to hardscape or native plants.
  • Irrigation systems must be capped or converted to drip irrigation.
  • See Parkway Strip Lawn Conservation Rebate.

Healthy Lawn Rebate

Core aeration and compost help reduce soil compaction, promote deep root growth, and reduce water runoff. Deep, healthy soil means less supplemental water is needed.

Don’t forget, mulch is FREE to City water customers at our Brush Recycling Center.

Details

  • Mechanical Aeration:  Mechanical (core) aeration creates spaces for water, air, and plant roots to expand into and helps reduce compacted soils.
  • Compost:  The addition of natural, organics adds depth to your yard profile, making more ways for water to be absorbed by your yard, and not run off.
  • Rebate amount is a flat $150 per yard.
  • See the Healthy Lawn Rebate for full details.

Rainwater Collection Rebate

Rainwater provides more nutrition for plants and trees, than treated potable water, due to high nitrogen content in rain.  Collecting rainwater also lessens soil erosion, by reducing the amount of water running off your property.

Details

**PROGRAM UPDATE**   Minimum rebate amount is $50.  This means if only applying for a rain barrel(s), the storage capacity needs to be 100 gallons or greater.

  • Purchased barrels or tanks must be designed specifically to collect and store liquid. Used or self-made barrels (i.e. converted trash cans or drums) are not eligible.
  • Rebate is $0.50 per gallon of water storage capacity, minimum amount rebated is 100 gallons. (This could be 2 50-gallon barrels.)
  • Rebate on pad material, pump, and other components for the collection project.
  • See the Rainwater Harvesting rebate application for full details.

Irrigation Rebates

Outdoor watering accounts for 60-80% of the City’s total water use in the summer! By making irrigation systems more efficient, we can reduce water use and water waste and improve the health of landscapes.

Residential

The Smart Irrigation Rebate provides rebates for specific efficiency changes to existing irrigation systems.  New irrigation systems are not eligible.

Rebates available on:

  • WaterSense labeled controllers;
  • Pressure regulating sprinkler heads and nozzles;
  • Pressure regulation on the mainline;
  • Weather sensors;
  • Converting zone(s) to drip irrigation or capping off an entire zone; and
  • Annual inspections by a Licensed Irrigator.

Commercial Properties

Several different programs are available to non-residential properties with existing irrigation systems.

  • Median & Parking Lot Island Conversion Rebate
    • For the removal or conversion of above ground irrigation in parking lot islands, parking lot medians, or roadway medians.
  • Commercial Irrigation Submeter Rebate
    • If the property does not have a dedicated irrigation meter, the addition of a submeter or flow sensor on the irrigation mainline can help identify leaks or other issues quicker than waiting for someone to spot it.

Better Bathroom Rebate

Bathrooms are the highest water using rooms of the house, accounting for half of indoor water use! Easily upgrade your bathroom with rebates to help cover the cost of WaterSense labeled toilets, bath faucets, and showerheads.

**PROGRAM UPDATE**  Only properties built before 1996 are eligible for this rebate program.

Ferguson Enterprises is offering partnered pricing for participants in the Better Bathroom program. Use the Round Rock Water Conservation account (#932490) when purchasing via phone or at their local branch.

Details

  • Rebate is for the purchase and installation of new WaterSense labeled toilets, showerheads, and bath faucets.
  • All property types are eligible.
  • Property must be built before 1996.
  • Rebate is 50% of the cost of the fixture and up to $50 per fixture for installation.
  • See the Better Bathroom Application for full details.

Water Flow Sensor Rebate

Water flow sensing devices record water use in real-time to identify potential leaks and alert you to unusual usage.  This allows the user to stop the flow of water much quicker, thus saving water and money.

Details

  • The property must have adequate Wi-Fi for the device to work.
  • Flo by MOEN, Flume2, Phyn Plus, & StreamLabs Control flow sensors are eligible for the rebate. If you want to install a different sensor, please reach out for confirmation that it’s eligible.
  • Rebate amount is 50% of the cost of the device (not including sales tax or shipping costs) and installation, up to a maximum amount of $300.
  • See full details on the Flow Sensor Rebate Application.
