The Round Rock Police Department’s Special Assignments Unit (SAU) is composed of officers trained to conduct proactive patrols, strengthen community relations and promote public safety throughout the city. The unit includes Bike Patrol Officers who maintain a consistent and visible presence in Downtown Round Rock, as well as in parks and along trail systems. Their mobility enables quick response times, enhanced accessibility and meaningful engagement with the community.
The team also utilizes Rugged Off-Highway Vehicles (ROHVs) to patrol hard-to-reach areas, ensuring coverage extends well beyond paved streets.
A key component of the SAU is its explosives detection K-9 team, consisting of a certified handler and a specially trained K-9. This team plays a vital role in pre-event security by conducting venue sweeps, assisting with threat detection and enhancing safety during large public events and city-sponsored gatherings.
Through specialized equipment and diverse patrol methods, the Special Assignments Unit enhances the department’s ability to serve and protect all residents, workers and visitors in Round Rock.
